Amrut Indian Single Malt

Amrut distillery was founded in 1948 as Amrut Laboratories.
Established by Shri J N Radhakrishna, the company began mixing and
bottling various alcoholic beverages. Due to the Indian climate 1 year
of aging, would be equivalent to 4-5 years in Scotland. This gives
Amrut Whiskeys some unique nuances and characteristics within
Single Malts around the world.

700ml 46% vol.

Nose: Distinctly confidant liquorice bourbon notes with near perfect bitter-sweet balance; burnt honeycomb and toffee also abound.

Taste: Outstanding richness and sheen to the enormous barley-oak sweetness; again there is a big bourbony cut to the cloth with all the liquorice and molassed sugar normally associated; but the barley adds that extra dimension.

Finish: Long, wonderfully layered oak offering variations of a sweet dry theme; a touch silky with some cream toffee at the death.

Alc Type: Indian Single Malt Whisky
Cask: oak ex-bourbon

amrut indian single malt whisky cask strengTH

This Indian single malt bottled in the natural degree without coloring and without cold filtering comes from the assembly of a few bourbon barrels. A very well structured single malt with a good balance between oak, barley and citrus notes.

700ml 50% vol.

Nose : Gristy smoked barley, kippers with a salted butter, peppered bite.

Taste : The delivery is youthful and barely reaching puberty then suddenly an intensely malty ascendancy followed by a healthy dose of drier oaks.

Finish : A sublime finale for its sheer delicacy and elegance; the peat no more than oozes, there are cups galaore of sugarless medium roast Mysore and finally, as a bourbony trail is discovered, soft liquorice and molassed sugar – easily the highlight of the experience: one of the best finishes of the year.

Amrut Rye single malt whisky

Amrut Rye Single Malt is the first indian whisky to be elaborated exclusively with european rye. With this unique whisky, Amrut distillery becomes one of the few distilleries to be producing with rye. Aged for 5 years in American oak casks, this is a fruity and delicate dram. Floral (rose, peony, orchid…) with orchard fruits on the nose (apple, pears). The palate is more intense balancing between fruits and sweet spices. The finish is longue and refreshing with subtle lemony notes. Different from the rest of the range, this a delicate whisky.

700ml 50% vol.

Nose: White peach, caramel, roses, bread dough, cassia buds.

Taste: Cherry, papaya, sauerbraten, cocoa, lemon, caramel bite candies. This tastes like it has been in a sherry cask. Or that it’s quite old and a bourbon and has big fruit.

Finish: Lemon, melon, dry sand, quince, honey, wood shavings, lime

Amrut Rag Igala single malt whisky

Another lovely single malt whisky from Indian producers Amrut. Raj Igala takes its name from the Punjabi phrase meaning The King of the Eagles. This whisky is entirely produced from Indian barley grown at the base of the Himalayas. It is wholly matured in former Bourbon American oak barrels. Due to the climate of India, Amrut’s whisky develops incredible complexity and intensity in a shorter maturation period.

This dram offers up lovely vanilla rich and woodspice full flavours, with a dense malty toffee note at its core. Raj Igala represents a great opportunity to get to grips with the house-style of Amrut and the flavour of Indian Barley. A small batch production, this is unlikely to stick around.

700ml 40% vol.

Appearance: Deep burnished gold.

Nose : Fruity. Notes of citrus fruit and melon. Creamy peach and caramel.

Taste: Full-bodied and balanced. Notes of honey and fruit (peach, citrus fruit). Slightly oily and spicy (black pepper).

Finish: Long and mellow. Phenolic retro-nasal olfaction.

Amrut Peated Cask Strength single malt whisky

A huge peated whisky from the most unlikely of sources! Amrut is an Indian whisky distilled in Bangalore, though the peated barley has been imported from Scotland. This whisky is peated to 24ppm, similar to a Talisker in smokiness. This is a whisky of enormous character, with almost peerless heat and spice. Bottled without chill filtration, artificial colouring, and at a huge 62.8%.

700ml 62.8% vol.

Nose : Gristy smoked barley, kippers with a salted butter, peppered bite.

Taste : The delivery is youthful and barely reaching puberty then

amrut KADHAMBAM single malt whisky

Kadhambam means ‘mixture’ or ‘combination’, and this Amrut certainly
lives up to its name: a vatting of normal and peated Amrut that started life in ex-oloroso casks before being transferred first into brandy casks, then into rum casks (both the rum and brandy having been produced at
Amrut also). A curious mixture, this is a unique and thrilling whisky.

700ml 50% vol.

Nose : Rich and floral, honeyed, nutty, new oak, vanilla, lifted fruit aromas of citrus and tropical fruits.

Taste : Candied fruits, subtle oak with a light dusting of peat and integrated spice.

Finish : Warming and complex with a dry, long finish.

amrut Fusion single malt whisky

“When the East meets the West”: this Amrut Fusion results from the blend of two special vintages from the Bangalore malt distillery. The first vintage is made from 80% malted barley grown at the foot of the Himalayas and 20% peated malted barley from Scotland. Each has been aged separately for four years under near-tropical temperatures, accelerating aging like old Caribbean rums! A single malt of great roundness and moderately peated, unfiltered cold and bottled at 50% which is reminiscent of certain “collectors” of Speyside!

700ml 46% vol.

Nose: Rich, barley, fruity. Big on citrus, spices, creamy sweetness. A hint
of peat.

Palate: Oaky, rich, gentle peat, coffee, dark chocolate. Fruity.

Finish: Long, spiced, marmalade, sweetness.

700ml 50% vol.

Nose: A rich, honeyed profile with loads of vanilla pods and creamy cake. Also quite floral, mainly buttercups. There’s plenty of fruits: pineapple candy, pink grapefruit, banana, caramelized apples… Apple pie. Hints of sweet oak and barley sugar. Just excellent – it’s like a Speyside grandpa with the vivacity of a youngster.

Taste: A liquid fruit salad with papaya, kiwi, mango and pineapple, lifted by notes of lime. So much fruit, so much body, so much roundness. Again a
coating of vanilla and powdered sugar. Subtle spices.

Finish: Long and fruity. Delicate oak with cinnamon and very light pepper.
